Liceo Siotto Pintor

Siotto Pintor High School is one of the oldest scholastic institutions in Sardinia, in one of the most relevant settings from the historical-archaeological and environmental point of view, just outside the city centre so as to be able to welcome students from the hinterland and acting as a link with the extra-urban territory. The institute currently has about 750 students, 80 teachers, 20 ATAs and 41 classes. There are 7 laboratories, 1 library, 1 hall, 1 gym, sports facilities and outdoor courts. It is equipped with an internal computer network with 170 network points, 45 interactive multimedia boards. The Lyceum has a century-old educational tradition that maintains its validity in contemporary society by continuing to distinguish itself for its strong educational value. It offers a cultural education, based on a wide range of knowledge and guarantees access to all humanistic and scientific university faculties. In setting up its training offer, the “Siotto Pintor” primarily pursues the realization of curricular activities in a program that puts the students at the centre of the didactic action and it tends to enrich the educational offer of the Institute , responding to different needs. It supports extracurricular activities connected with the Institute’s guidelines, which aim to the enrichment to the European and international dimensions and in strong connection with the needs of the territory. The educational-teaching activity is inspired by constitutional principles in promoting the democratic value of public education as a priority and intends to support a formation that maintains ties with the past, enhancing the Latin and Greek classical languages and cultures, combining them with the knowledge of the contemporary world for the assumption of responsibilities and an independent personality of the students. The training process of the humanistic disciplines is harmonized with the study of sciences, arts and English language and culture. Our school has always been involved in the musical field. We cooperated with the Music Conservatory in Cagliari and the experience was extremely stimulating. Many students still attend the Conservatory and we have an active band and a chorus at school. We joined this project to fulfil three relevant needs: enhancing enrolments; preventing school dropouts; interweaving our courses with Sardinian culture, trying to catch our inner heritage through folk music and dance. Key people: Lucia Baiocchi she graduated in Humanistics studies, she has a master in Sardinian Language Studies; Fabrizio Orrù English language and culture teacher he has a specialization in multimedia didactic devices (Master teacher).Anyway we have a team of teachers responsible for projects who are willing to work for new didactic methodology. Finally Sardinia can be considered a minority for its insularity it has been preserving peculiar language and traditions, it can give a huge provision to the development of the project.
